Marvel Future Fight: Teases (X-traordinary) X-Men Announcement for SDCC 2018

Ever since the 3 year anniversary of Marvel Future Fight, the game and developers have really turned things around from a few great flubs in the last year- such as the loot box Ultimates characters which resulted in amassive player boycott.
Today after the official Marvel Games twitter account posted an image about what is in store for this years San Diego Comic Con without Future Fight, players questioned the lack of the game, and the official Future Fight account was quick to respond with an amazing teaser.

This seems like an easy teaser for the Extraordinary X-Men comic series.  Granted we can only speculate at this point, but we already have a lot of the team in the game and there's an opportunity to give them new uniforms and even expand the roster with fan favorite characters like Deadpool.
Considering that last years SDCC announcement was the Age of Apocalypse, I can only imagine this years will need to top the hype and subsequent letdown last year- Apocalypse himself didn't even arrive in game until a couple weeks after the initial update hit.

The hype has already begun, and I for one, am very X-Cited to see what Netmarble has in store for Marvel Future Fight as SDCC 2018 at the Marvel Games Panel on Thursday, July 19th from 1-2pm.

Marvel Future Fight: Thoughts on Netmarble, Kabam, and the Possibility of Mutants

A couple days ago news broke of Korean game giant Netmarble is purchasing a majority of Canadian Kabam's assets- with it's extremely lucrative licensed ties to Marvel, Universal, and Warner Bros.  Though, the thing I'm particularly interested in here is how the Marvel games will be effected.

It's estimated that 95% of Kabam's income (over 450 million since Dec. 2014) came from the IAP heavy Contest of Champions, a game I found to be decent but HIGHLY repetitive, so this might be a huge hit in their production budgets.  On the opposite end of this Netmarble's far superior game Marvel Future Fight might not make as much money (couldn't find comparative figures for this) it's a much better game in so many ways.  It's a much more action RPG type game with loads of multiplayer additions and things to do. Contest is a basic 2D fighter.
My intrigue with this business deal comes from the fact that Contest of Champions has a one singular thing I see as better than Future Fight- the mutant populace.

It is doubtful that well be getting mutants any time soon in Future Fight, but this does offer a slight ray of hope for our x-gene friends of the X-Men universe.  It's also a bit concerning that Marvel is pushing the comics from the mutants more towards Inhuman, meaning we have even less of a chance at seeing the popular mutants arrive any time soon.  I mean look at the crap Marvel did with Squirrel Girl, a long-time mutant, was altered to be now a non-mutant, meaning Fox can't cash in on the very profitable film rights while Marvel now can make tons of money off her popularity.  Marvel tends not to like to share.  But I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that we may still someday see characters like Colossus, Storm, or Wolverine in Future Fight.

DC Unchained: DC Comics' Mobile Counterpoint to Marvel Future Fight

It looks like Korean publisher 4:33 Creative Labs announced at a recent Comic Con that their development studio Thumb Ageis has been officially working on a DC Universe based mobile game, called DC Unchained, and it looks like worthy competition for Netmarble's massively popular Marvel Future Fight.

Much like the Marvel Future Fight, players will choose a team of 3 characters- such as Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman- out of an initial 30 heroes and villains, for a variety of modes including story, PvP, and even real-time co-op.  There's been hints that there are still a couple modes yet to be revealed, and there's always the potential for the DC roster to expand greatly after the initial launch.

Not much else is known at this point.  It looks a little choppy at points, but overall it could easily become the best DC Universe game available once it launches as titles like DC Legends or the mobile versions of Injustice, the 3rd person RPG fun just hasn't been matched nearly as well as Future Fight nailed Marvel's characters.

I'm seriously looking forward to this and will be updating here as more information and news comes in.

DC Unchained is expected to hit Western shores in 4Q 2017.

Marvel Future Fight: Misty Knight & Shang Chi Update: Thoughts

I was actually surprised when I logged in last night to get my daily play time in on the always amazing mobile game Marvel Future Fight only to find that there's already a new update so soon after the Gwenpool and The New Avengers one a month ago.

This new update gives us two new characters, Misty Knight and Shang Chi, as well as 4 more costumes- one of which I was almost hopeful for- Ghost Rider.  Unfortunately, it's his Inhumans: Attilan Rising suit with a flair for the Prohibition era, although it has a car as his summon which is kind of cool.  That, however, makes me wonder why they wouldn't just go with either the much cooler looking comic version of Robbie Reyes (to go with his appearance on the new season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) or go with the really badass looking Trail of Tears costume with the fiery horse.  I've been waiting on the Trail of Tears one for Marvel Heroes 2016 for years to go with my cosmic prestiged Ghostie.  Or a Ghost Rider 2099 costume with some kind of cool digitized flame effects.  When will we get that in either game?!?

In addition there's new Black Cat, Moon Knight, and Daredevil costumes.  Sadly, I'm not too impressed with them.  They're all pretty decent, I just don't care for them.
We also get some more tier two abilities, some new 6* skills, and the new Shadowland mode.

I have to say that after playing Misty Knight, she's absolutely fun as hell and has already taken a place in my main team.  I like the fact she's got a great look and freeze powers (sort of) complete with the nice bonus of boosting Lady Loki's ice powers with her mastery ability.
While I don't have Shang Chi yet, his powers look wonderful on the screen in the testing area.  He appears to be a good alternative to the other fast combat characters.

Overall, I'm always pleased with new updates and the surprises new characters bring, and we're still waiting for Doctor Strange from over a year ago.  Not even kidding, check the date on that link.  Anyways, just getting Misty Knight has made me downright giddy.  Once again I have to say Marvel Future Fight is without a doubt the best mobile Marvel comics game, and they keep proving time and again that they will remain that way for a long time to come.

Marvel Future Fight: Doctor Strange Update & Thoughts

Yesterday the Marvel Future Fight 2.6 patch hit and added a ton of stuff.  The obligatory 8 new characters, 4 movie tie-in costumes, a film related mode, as well as one huge negative.

Despite the amazing new character additions, the only one I wanted was Doctor Strange himself.  But in leveling him up (which can ONLY be done through the 46 "Epic Quest" missions) I found he's got one monstrously large problem- and it's one that definitely feels like a paywall.  In order to rank up and master the good Doctor fully, you HAVE to get Baron Mordo, Wong, Ancient One, and Kaecilius to 4 stars, and then get Clea, Satana, and Hellstorm to 5 stars.

What makes this so awful is the extremely limited way to obtain the biometrics to unlock and rank up the new characters.  Wong, Baron Mordo, Ancient One, and Kaecilius are available through the Epic Quest's "Memory Missions" which only allow for 10 runs for each character a day- meaning a maximum of roughly 10 bios a day (occasionally it'll give you 2 on a run)- and you need 150 total to get to 4 stars.  Whereas Satana and Hellstorm are available in the Epic Quest's "Dark Dimension," and Clea can be found as a Shifter in the same area.  Because each of them need to make it to 5 stars we'd need 310 of each character's biometrics.  Making things even worse is that the only way to get Clea or Satana outside of the extremely limited biometric chances a day is only via the store's Monthly Selector because they will not be available with the regular selectors.  I also don't know if rank up tickets will work for them yet, so that may be a small relief.
Considering the total number of biometrics rewarded through the Epic Quest is a meager 250, that means either an absurdly long farming task, or a bunch of purchases- making it seem like the trip to Strange is a multidimensional journey through the metaphysical paywalls of gaming.

Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind the need to purchase stuff- as I do for extra costumes (including Strange's film one) and characters, and as I did for both Gwenpool and Carnage.  It's just here, they've made Doctor Strange ridiculously difficult to get to his full potential because you need to get all the other new characters boosted.  I mean why couldn't I just buy his character and feed him surplus biometrics as is necessary for the Boss characters like Thanos?  Why force us to obtain and rank characters we may not want just to get the one we actually do want?

Strange is coming out in a movie and will likely draw in a crowd of potential new players, and what they've essentially done is create a funneled paywall to the in-game store in order to play him.  It definitely appears to be a frustrating limitation for not just us long time players, but will very likely be a reason many new players may give up or quit.

On a side note, where the hell is Dormammu?  One would think that great Doctor Strange staple villain and fiery-headed mystical arts user would be a wonderful addition to the game instead of the slightly more obscure Satana and Hellstorm.   And now that I think of it, what happened to Enchantress, Sandman, and the Netflix Daredevil costumes for the Punisher and Elektra?

Marvel Future Fight: Gwenpool is Coming!

Marvel Future Fight has been giving us a lot of great content and expansions over the last year and now fan-favorite character Gwenpool has been officially announced.

For those who are unfamiliar with who this strange Deadpool-esque lady is:
"Gwen Poole was a comic book fan who was one day mysteriously transported into the Marvel Universe that she had only read about in her own world. Under the impression that the Marvel Universe is all make-believe, she's taken on her own Super Hero identity to kick butt and have fun -- with zero consequences!"
No release date has been released yet, but Netmarble has been pretty good about getting the characters out relatively quickly after they've been announced.  I think the only time this hasn't been true is with Doctor Strange, because he's been shown in a few of their videos and he's still not out.  I mean he and Enchantress had been datamined almost a year ago.  He'll probably be held until right before his film hits theaters in November.

Now, I'm just waiting for a cool new Ghost Rider costume.  Like the amazing flaming horse rider from Trail of Tears, or his 2099 costume.  Since he'll be arriving on Agents of .S.H.I.E.L.D. this fall, maybe we'll even get the Robbie Reyes version.  The car he uses might be a tough addition for this mobile game though.

Marvel Future Fight: Gwenpool & The New Avengers Have Arrived!

Marvel Future Fight recently got another huge update (full details here) and, one again it is amazing.  I've said it over and over again, this game is consistently getting better than it was, and it's already a better game than 90% of games out there for mobile devices.  That isn't to say it is not without problems, because there are definitely a few- such as the huge Timeline Battle imbalances- but really, it's a small problem considering how exactly much content the game provides overall.

This new update brings us a total of 6 new characters and 2 new costumes.  First there's the undeniably fun Gwenpool, then we get The New Avengers- comprised of White Tiger, Wiccan, Hulkling, Songbird, and Squirrel Girl!  The new costumes are one for Wasp, and a classic for Nebula.  I really like the new selection of characters, they are well designed and fun to play.  Particularly Gwenpool because of her silly skipping walk animation.

On top of this we get 5 new Special Missions.  The previous Special Missions for Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy have been moved to Dimension Rifts, which are now searchable instead of relying on finding them randomly- making getting ones you want infinitely easier to get into.  I got sick of finding the same one over and over.

This update on the whole is amazing.  It adds a great cast of extra characters, new levels and enemies, and a bunch of other little niceties.  I've been having a blast with most the new characters, and the added levels have given us a very welcome change for scenery and story elements.  Future Fight, well, developer Netmarble, has again outdone themselves.

I did notice one oddity, and I don't know if it's a bug or not, but I've only had a single person show up continuously as an ally shifter (which is happening far more frequently since the update) and it's Gwenpool.  I don't mind the issue, because I did buy the 20 biometrics for 30 days pack to get her, and this just makes leveling her up a little quicker.  Seriously, I've had her show up at least 12 times back to back.  Finally, problem working in the player's favor!

Plus, I know many of us are still awaiting the arrival of the leaked-a-year-ago Doctor Strange (and he's already teased by Netmarble in a previous video).  It makes sense that they'd be saving him for closer to the film's release though, so we should be seeing him around late October or early November.

Marvel Future Fight: Official Trailer for Asgard Update 2.7.0 (Update Arrives Wed. December 7th!)

[ UPDATE: IS ALREADY LIVE!!! ]

The new Marvel Future Fight update is arriving much swifter than I had anticipated, hitting this Wednesday with the pre-update server maintenance occurring on 12/6 16:00 ~ 12/7 01:00 (UTC+0) and 12/6 08:00 AM ~ 12/6 05:00 PM (PST).

Firstly, we'll be getting 7 new characters, Odin, the Warriors Three (Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg), Hela, Ulik, and lastly the Enchantress will finally be arriving in game after a leak from early 2015.  Sadly, Odin looks to be only obtainable after completing the new chapter 12 stage 8, and can only be leveled up with Black Anti-matter, other character biometrics for experience and Chaotic Norn Stones for mastery.  Enchantress is locked behind the 20 Biometrics Daily selector package, which really isn't terrible, and the rest will be through standard level biometrics in the new chapters.  I also noticed that Malekith bios will also be in the chapters, which is a nice change.
Speaking of daily biometrics, each level will now offer 10, boosted from the previous 5, which of course used to only be a meager 3 each day per stage.

In addition, Thor, Sif, and Silk are getting great new costumes.  As always, they'll be on sale for their initial arrival.  The new upgrade material is Uru (awesome), a new World Boss Invasion has been added, and the top S.H.I.E.L.D. player level is being raised to 70.  There's a ton of other little changes, but I'm just pumped for the major characters and costumes right now.  Seriously, check out the link below for all the details.  There is a huge amount of stuff in this update, which explains why it took longer than many of the previous ones.

Marvel Future Fight: Mysterious Messages Hint Towards Next Update & Thoughts

The official Marvel Future Fight website has posted two new hints at the near future of the game. Netmarble always gives their player base a series of clues to the next wave of incoming characters and levels, bits at a time and allows us to try and figure out what we're getting. For this one we get some codes to decrypt.

     The first one reads:
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Our journey's into the future have seemingly stopped. It seems that we have altered realities one too many times, which has blocked our abilities to see into the future. This is not good as just last month our seers helped us in preventing catastrophic damage to Asgard!
We have however managed to intercept messages sent through the fabric of time by our future selves, in order to reveal at least something in the upcoming update. We have no idea what it means, and we tried the lottery, and it doesn't seem to be that. Can you help us decipher the numbers and bring meaning to what is coming?

     The second one reads:
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
More jumbled code has been discovered. We have our codebreakers working on deciphering the code, but we're starting to suspect that they have absolutely no clue what they're doing. We're forwarding this code to you, agent, so that you may decipher the code and bring light to the information that we can't decipher.

Marvel Future Fight: Timeline Battles HORRIBLY Imbalanced (and new Black Order patch comments)

THE BLACK ORDER HAS ARRIVED

As some of my readers know, I've been generally enjoying the Marvel Future Fight mobile game since it hit devices almost a year ago.  There's been a ton of new characters added, new costumes galore, and just an all around great amount of variance in ways to play the game.  In the new Black Order patch, we get a cool new World Boss Mode related to the cosmic threat of Thanos with Proxima Midnight, Black Dwarf, and Corvus Glaive.
On other thing they added was increasing a level's biometrics count from 3 to 5 a day.  That is a huge change that will make a lot of people happy.

TIMELINE INSANITY

However, lately there's been some changes that really took a few steps backwards in the fun factor department, and it has to do with the Timeline Battles.  This part of play pits you against other players' teams and used to have the ability to change who you battled against.  The last major Future Fight patch altered it to the game picking for you based on "score." (Here's the link to Netmarble's official notes post)  This method of matchmaking is damned awful because everyone begins with an even 1000 points.  Which means that players with low levels like the ones I've been playing are pitted against players with fully maxed out teams they literally cannot hope to beat.  Just look at the screen captures I posted below.
When even a couple levels can mean certain doom, 30 plus level differences is catastrophic giving the player absolutely no way to come out a winner if they are on the low end.  Netmarble claimed they would be fixing this in the new patch and, somehow, it got even worse.  How am I still being put against teams I have no hope of winning?  Even after trying to search for new opponents, I still keep getting placed against max level 60s!  This is ridiculous.  That isn't even taking into account the blatant imbalance between some characters- such as Spider-Man, Loki, and Hulkbuster Iron Man- that are all innately far too powerful against many other characters.

The first patch examples:

The newest patch:

To top it off with something to make the changes even worse, they've cut off the ability to choose a new opponent unless you pay gold- and as soon as you "search for an opponent" it goes almost directly into the fight with a few mere seconds to stop the process.  This might not be an issue, but if you'd like to earn the daily bonuses you have to participate in 5 Timeline Battles.  Many of us have grown accustomed to logging in and getting crushed for 5 battles because there isn't a way to fairly play with the current system- maybe Netmarble needs to match by levels instead of a score that everyone begins at.

Seriously Netmarble, this is easily the worst part of the game.  Timelines began all right, but it has progressively gotten worse with each patch, and I'm not even close to the only person that hates this new Timeline system.

Oh- and I'm still very, VERY displeased with the fact I bought the "subscription" package and got some Carnage biometrics and then used some on other days for other characters, and now I can't choose him with normal biometrics from the Combat selector ones after initially unlocking him.  Meaning if I don't use the subscription for EXCLUSIVELY him, I can't level him later.  Not cool at all.

Marvel Future Fight: Captain America: Civil War Update & Thoughts

Once again the amazing Marvel Future Fight mobile game has received a truly monstrous update.  This one as a large tie-in to the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film.

We are getting a slew of new costumes (currently only for Team Cap, with the exception of Ant-Man, whose will be added soon along with Team Iron Man's).  There's also 3 new boss fight characters- Supergiant, Ebony Maw, and Thanos himself- have joined the battle, as well as one more playable character- Crossbones.
The new costumes are a welcome addition, but I am unimpressed by Crossbones' play style so far.  He's got nothing interesting or new, but perhaps he'll grow on me.

An added bonus is for this update there's a limited time event in which players can choose sides in the civil war and earn points in hopes of receiving some spoils and awards.  The Faction Battle is either Team Cap or Team Iron Man and has some nice back and forth as players get their points and time in.

My one huge disappointment is that the Timelines PvP is still completely ridiculous and horribly imbalanced.  How has this remained a staple to play for daily achievements and also largely left to be a broken mess?  Either eliminate the daily mission, or fix the match ups.

Overall, things are continuously improving with plenty of things to keep players engaged and happy, it's just that nagging PvP area that is causing problems.  Although... the equipment areas- namely the cards and the highly irritating upgrading system are kind of terrible. What's the point of upgrading items you like if they change into a random different item?!?  I was super angry my +48% burn damage boost became a Speed resist item.  Seriously Netmarble, that is a terrible idea.  If it's a gamble on what you get out of upgrading valuable items, then upgrading is something we won't necessarily want to do.

Marvel Future Fight: NEW Now Update Teaser Hint 3 & Thoughts

With the new Marvel Future Fight update nearing, the official website Mobirum has been giving us nice clues to try and puzzle out as to what we'll be getting.  Yesterday, I posted the clues and what they meant, and today we get a new one.

     The new message:
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Yet another code has come in, and we are unsure as to why Future_ME@mobirum.com is sending emails with images, and honestly, I was kind of concerned about opening them (after all, that seems like a fake email, and even if it was legit, we could've had some strange paradoxes and what not). After opening the file however, I was relieved that it was just an image of a random group of characters.
I would Frame it if there was any quality involved in the image, but for now, I'll just leave it here so everyone can see it!
I like that they are going with a varied set of hints.  First the ASCII, then the simple cypher, and now an image.  The first two messages translated to, "3 New Characters,." and "ALL NEW THREE CHARACTERS ARE FEMALE."  This picture shows characters with the first letters of their names coming down to, NOW MARVEL.

A clear indication that the 3 new female characters will be from the newer Marvel Now material.  Marvel does like to push things that tie in to their current content. I had previously guessed quite a few from that list with Spider-Woman, Kate Bishop, Medusa, Crystal, America Chavez, Monica Rambeau, Moon Girl (with a summon-able Devil Dinosaur).  Although I had forgotten about Hellcat, and she'd be pretty cool, or Riri Williams.  I also hadn't considered Mary Jane Watson from the Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows series.  But, honestly, that's a horrible costume design and do we really need yet another Spider-character?

As much as I think we could do without another Captain America or Iron Man clone, chances are pretty high we'll be getting Miss America and Riri's Iron Man, but the 3rd go go any direction.  I wouldn't mind a Kate Bishop and I really, REALLY would like to see Moon Girl (& Devil Dinosaur) - especially because Netmarble has been pushing the summons like crazy lately.  Plus if they made it so she became Devil Dinosaur, it'd be the first time a non-human was playable.  Which could eventually lead to a playable Lockjaw to go with Black Bolt.

In addition, I'm really hoping we get a plethora of new costumes as well.  Some characters haven't had a singe new costume yet, and others have a ton.  Some of the choices of costumes seem a bit strange as well, like the Attilan Rising Ghost Rider instead of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Robbie Reyes one seems like a huge miss.

Marvel Future FIght: Update 2.9 Teaser Images

After the last update, I was a bit underwhelmed.  I wasn't too impressed with the characters, less impressed with the new uniforms, and so on.  Especially because it followed such an awesome Asgard update.  The small teaser we are getting is two images showing a "New Areas"

Right off the bat, I'm a bit off put by the fact that it appears to be the same area, from two different vantage points.  It's a small irritation, but it's also true.  Anyways, Netmarble won't say what these will be for- perhaps new dimensional rifts, an Epic Quest analog, new levels, etc- but they will be definitely available with the update.
The pictures look very reminiscent of the inside of Ronan the Accuser's ship, The Dark Aster, from Guardians of the Galaxy.  It wouldn't surprise me at all with all the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hype going around.  Granted the film won't be out until May 5th, there's still something possibly there.

In addition there will also now be an Alliance Store with Alliance Tokens.  No word yet on what the store will feature or how the Tokens will work.  Plus they're finally adding a customizable Alliance Emblem.  It isn't much, but it is a nice small treat.

I'll continually update this blog with whatever info I find, as well as a longer post on costumes and ideas for the game and so on.

Marvel Future Fight: All New, All Different New Year Update Trailer & Thoughts

I didn't think it was possible, but with every update Netmarble Games has somehow made Marvel Future Fight an even better game than the last one.  The newest update arrived yesterday and brought us a cleaned up main screen and menu system, a slew of new costumes, and a whole lot more fun.

Seriously, this is the only mobile game that I make daily visits to, and continually toss a few bucks into for cosmetic things like new costumes.  As long as their updates maintain being this great, I'll be more than happy to continue to support them.  If my readers here haven't given it a try, it's a free to play game that I would instantly recommend to fans of either action games or of Marvel properties.  It makes me a bit sad that there aren't any X-men related characters, more than likely due to licensing quibbles between studios- Marvel's stranglehold on eliminating the support for those things they can't make ALL the money off of- but otherwise, Future Fight's roster is huge, and the game play is top notch for a mobile title.  Hopefully I can crank out some let's play type videos with this game soon.

On a side note: we are about 3 months from the one year anniversary of the game and I can't wait to see what surprises they bring.  I'm crossing my fingers for characters like Squirrel Girl or maybe a Doctor Strange from the upcoming film, as there are already a lot of television and movie tie-in costumes.

Marvel Future Fight: Doctor Strange FINALLY Announced

Almost a year and a half after originally hearing about Doctor Strange's appearance (via rumors spied through the Eye of Amagotto) in Marvel Future Fight, he's finally leaving the Astral Plane and coming to the game.  It does make sense to save it to tie-in to the film release, but it's been so damn long!

In addition to the Sorcerer Supreme in the 2.6.0 update, we'll be getting a slew of other related characters.  By the looks of it we'll be receiving multiple costumes for Strange himself, Baron Mordo, what appears to be multiple versions of The Ancient One, Wong, Clea, and Kaecilius.

Once again, Netmarble is adding a ton of great characters on top of an ever-expanding playable roster.  This game just keeps getting better and better, and is without a doubt the best mobile Marvel game available.

Marvel Future Fight: Update: Hyperion & Doctor Strange: Quick Thoughts

The always outstanding mobile game Marvel Future Fight just got another update with a new playable character and a bunch of new costumes.  Once again, the menus got changed, for the better, and a slew of other little alterations and such.

What I wonder is why after their last big update teaser from two weeks ago showed Thanos and had a big Doctor Strange teaser at the end, why didn't they didn't add him?  They instead went with Hyperion of the Squadron Supreme.  More so, why go with Hyperion and not the Sentry, whose powers would offer some potentially amazing light versus dark flip-flopping with his dark alter ego the Void.  Think of how cool it would be if his 6 star power completely changed him to a dark version with different powers!  That could be absolutely amazing.

Anyways, Strange was datamined, along with the Enchantress, a long time ago, almost a year ago if I recall correctly.  I figure they are just teasing him and withholding until around the time the film hits theaters in November.  An annoyance for sure, especially with Future Fight's blatant tease two weeks ago.

I'm not really interested in many of the new costumes, except Yondu's, and Hyperion really isn't a character I care to play- but I have to say the game changes are holding up well.  Hopefully we'll keep getting more costumes and characters to round out the roster.  Perhaps some more of the Squadron Supreme...

And maybe we'll get Doctor Strange sooner than November.

Heroes: It's Coming: notes and thoughts

Here is another lengthy Heroes blog to eat up your valuable time with crazy ideas in a scatterbrained manner.

I would like to say the Director did an amazing job on this episode. Hopefully this quality of work remains throughout the rest of the series.

The Petrelli's are ruining the world. Peter whines the world away, Sylar is a hungry bastard, Angela can dream the future(but not do anything about it), Nathan refuses to be a public figure, and Arthur likes to manipulate everyone and everything. They are the best dysfunctional family ever!
Arthur tried to kill Nathan(Car accident), Sylar tried to kill Claire(Nathan's daughter, implied in season 1), Sylar tried to kill Peter(in season 1's future, where he'd already killed Nathan, at Homecoming, in Mohinder's apartment, and at Kirby Plaza), Peter tries to kill Future Nathan, Future Peter shoots Present Nathan, Angela tried to poison Arthur, Arthur puts Angela into a coma.
I wonder if Arthur and Angela Petrelli killed their own parents to get them out of the way?

I do have to give credit to the writer's for making Peter a force of good again. Being capable without a power. A thinker, a go-getter.

Sylar finally learns empathetic power siphoning by being locked in a room with a sweaty, chained up Elle. (The first obvious Watchmen trailer ripoff so far) In this scene we learn that empathy DOES stop people from killing. He doesn't have to dissect brains anymore. By empathizing with someone you apparently lose the will to understand the complexity of working systems.
Did he find a way to use Claire's healing on another, or did she just exhaust enough electricity to be all right? If the latter is what happened, how much can she store? Like some kind of human battery and generator.
I also like how he becomes a bit more like Peter with the absorption ability. Now he has to feel his way into mastering powers, instead of having a full knowledge of how they work. He needs to practice, a very nice touch.
Does anyone remember Sylar knowing Mohinder's father's watch was broken before Mohinder's father did? So his power of systemic knowledge extends to knowing things before others, why didn't he know about his own ability. Turn it on himself. With the telekinesis he could probe his own brain without a problem.

Sylar + Elle + (heart symbol) + (censored) = little Noah from the future. More than likely, seeing as that is the exact formula for baby making. Mohinder should look into this, it might help his chances with Maya "when-I-cry-people-die" Herrera. Although... Sylar has the benefit of knowing an object's history... so does he know her history now??? EWWWWW... (if that's how it works then he could tell if Arthur of Angela were being truthful about their pasts)
Less likely would be Arthur regressing Noah Bennet's mind, and a Dead Future Peter magically showing up and stuffing him into a kid's body with the body swapping power, then high-fiving Papa Petrelli before returning to his future grave.

Why did Arthur regress Hiro into a childish state instead of stealing the power? I did completely enjoy his reactions to the current state of Marvel comics characters.(Spidey outed, Red Hulk, etc.) It also gives an idea of how his power works. He wants waffles, he shows up at the place that has his favorite waffles. Focusing on something he wants/needs, and he travels to where it is located.
So Hiro is now has to relearn everything he didn't learn in the first place. Only now he has to do it in the remedial class. Poor Ando. No wonder he kills Future Hiro, he's a moron. Again.
A dose of Claire blood could heal his brain and restore memories.(like Peter, Angela and Adam)

Usutu- Arthur killed him and then he shows up in Parkman's quest into Angela's mind. So was he there or is he a product of Parkman or Angela? Or was it Parkman's turtle, who I believe may be working with Mr. Muggles in pulling all the strings behind the scenes.
If he could paint Hiro showing up(twice), and avoid Hiro, why couldn't he paint his potential death(like Isaac)?
Speaking of dead Usutu, who's the person painting on the buildings in New York.(the cracked Earth with the "Godsend" symbol when Mohinder got his power on the dock and the one Peter and Claire see on the apartment wall) Is there other painters out and about? I know Isaac's 9th Wonders comics are still going. But how are the comics getting info from this changed future? They changed the future AFTER Isaac died. So the 9th wonders issues he made all were for that future(Future Mohinder saved Hiro by stabbing a needle into the Haitian). What the Hell man??? Is someone else now making them? New and improved 9th Wonders comics, made by Arthur and Gabriel Petrelli!!! (they're the only ones to have the painting precognition FOR SURE)

Has Parkman been the only one to push through the Haitian's power? Why aren't they showing that type of power struggle anymore?(Like Sylar breaking through Hiro's timestop in season 1)
He can partially get through the Haitian's power, but didn't see Daphne was working for Arthur??? Are her thoughts super fast? That would be sweet.
Parkman broke out of his father's trap, so how would Arthur stand to keep him locked in? Anyway, I think that Arthur made a very good move in letting Angela go. The scene had great emotional conflict.

Same goes for Mohinder. He is getting back to the struggling scientist he started as. Choosing to do the right thing, instead of what he was asked to do. He should also get his scales checked soon. Nasty. That's what he gets for webbing street-goers to walls. Hey, why did Mohinder's test subject go bad so fast, while Mohider is still mostly normal?

The Eclipse. Didn't a bunch of the "Heroes" have their powers before the eclipse? I know Kensei didn't have for-sure powers until after the 1600's one. Or how about the parents with powers? If the powers were based on eclipses, their abilities would have been gone at the beginning of the first season.
Also didn't Claire survive as a baby from her mother's fire?

The formula is missing something, a catalyst.
How could that be? In the future plenty of people seem to have powers, but Hiro and Ando were fighting over the formula. Why?
The catalyst for synthetic powers needs to be in a human host according to Mohinder. Was the original in Kensei(Adam Munroe)? Because both Nathan and Tracy/Jessica/Nikki were definitely synthetically given powers at birth long before Claire was born.

Angela's dreams have been altered. Originally a bunch of people were dead.(I think there was Hiro, Parkman, Claire, Peter, Noah(other???)) That one had Sylar, Tracy, Maury, Knox and Adam in it. Now Maury is presumably dead, and Adam is a pile of dust. So that is definitely not happening. The second was Tracy, Nathan, and Peter dead(I don't recall other people dead in that one), and Arthur was the bad guy. So things, they are a-changin'. The future has already been changed. Twice. Disaster averted. Celebrate.

A war is coming is going to be somehow a powerless fight.(from the commercial) The sides being Primatech Paper Petrelli and Pinehearst Petrelli Biotechnology. Camp Primatech has the benefit of Noah Bennett. He's been kicking ass sans powers for the entire series.
If they get their powers back, then Primatech also has the Haitian. But, then again, they also have a mopey Claire, an already powerless Peter(Impotence strikes Primatech!!!), and Daphne(who already works for Arthur).
I really hope they don't build suspense and blow it bigtime, like the Peter vs Sylar battles.(in season 1 future or Kirby Plaza)
It NEEDS to be epic. Through time and space(Hiro/Arthur/Daphne(speed)), in the material now(most people), and in the psychic planes(Parkman/Arthur). I want to be sweating from Oh. My. Gawd!!! moments. Crank up the intensity on a 1 to 10 scale to around 371. I expect roughly 2 gazillion% increase in awesomeness to make up for last seasons lack of confrontation.

"It starts with light, and ends with light. And in between there is darkness."
Maybe the end is in this quote from the end of the episode. Good guys win, but at great cost and through much suffering.

Post Notes:
I still have a sneaky suspicion that Angela has Persuasion powers like Eden. She seems to do this multiple times in all 3 seasons.

Future Claire and Future Hiro/Ando. I currently believe Papa Petrelli uses mind control to make them into complete douches(for the future episodes). Claire's you can tell by the dye job, and it's hard to tell with Hiro and Ando. Either one of them could have been brainwashed into something. Ando into believing Hiro ditches him(in child or adult mentality), or Hiro into thinking Ando is an evil spawn of Satan.
(Someone sent a screen capture of Future Ando to me, he has a Pinehearst pin on his coat. His turncoat. What a traitorous jerk.)

Is anyone else expecting stupid lines from Knox like:
"I'm from the school of hard Knox!" or
"There is nothing to fear, except fear itself... because it smells like a fart and now I'm super strong."

Knox and Claire's Uncle Flint are totally the Bebop and Rocksteady(from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) of the Heroes universe. Arthur hired two highly incompetent goons to do his petty work.

I think my fingers are bleeding from all this typing.
My brain stopped working about halfway through this post. Sorry guys.
How do these Heroes posts get so damn long?

Ant-Man: My Ant-icipation is Growing

It's no surprise to anyone that reads this blog that I am super excited for Ant-Man.  Getting new information and TV Spots are not helping any.  I finally got my hands on Lego Hank Pym toy, and there has been news about the upcoming video game tie ins that I am appreciative of.

I made this nice Ant-Man Splat GIF for funsies.
Though, I am a little sad Marvel isn't licensing Ant-Man his own small mobile game, which could be unbelievable if handled well enough with his shrinking/growing powers, and even more interesting if you consider his ability to communicate with ants.

What games Marvel has announced a slew of tiny tie-ins with are:
  • Marvel Pinball players will go against Yellowjacket in a multi-ball fight.
  • Puzzle Quest will receive an “Ant-Man” 30-day story event with 5 new missions.
  • Avenger’s Alliance Ant-Man will get a special operation.
  • Contest of Champions has a new alliance quest, a new story event & PvP tournaments.
  • Future Fight will host 4 new characters, 5 new stages and 2 costume variants.
  • Marvel Heroes look for enhanced costumes for Ant-Man including the theatrical outfit.
Really, I'm only interested in the Future Fight and Marvel Heroes games- which are getting some of the better stuff, such as playable Ant-Men.  So despite not getting his own portable mini-game for phones, these offer the best options to that.

As far as Marvel films have been going, I think Ant-Man will be closer to being along the lines of the Guardians of the Galaxy than what the Avengers related films have been.  What I mean is this film seems to feel like a much smaller scaled focus on people, a closer look at the people instead of the world dominating circumstances of the Avengers.  Yes, Guardians did have a galactic threat, but really came down to the story of a small group becoming friends and working together.  It used ample humor and great characterization versus the spectacle of global destruction.  So I really hope Ant-Man can pull it off.

Marvel Future Fight: Another New Update! Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan, Carnage, Jane Foster Thor, and One Large Problem

As easily the best Marvel game, and one of the best free-to-play mobile games, Future Fight recently received yet another great update.  This time they've added Carnage as a playable character, although he's locked behind a sort of paywall to obtain, the Jane Foster Thor, and Kamala "Ms. Marvel" Khan.

In addition to this there are new costumes for Luke Cage, Green Goblin, and Star Lord.  Intriguingly, the Goblin costume changes the way the character plays to feel more like Hulk.

There's also been a lot of visual overhauls to buttons and menus, and honestly one huge change that is very infuriating- the Timeline Battles (versus mode against other players' characters).
They took the mode and made the matchmaking downright horrendous.  It is so absurdly imbalanced now that it isn't even funny.  It is irritating and a giant annoyance, because one of the daily missions to complete requires you to play 5 rounds of Timeline Battles.
I am consistently put against people 20 levels above mine, making it quite literally impossible to win, and the only way to find a new opponent is to pay in game gold- meaning they encourage changing to get people to buy more gold.

I mean check out the 3 fights I did (in order):

So in the first round my three level 43 characters were pitted against three level 60s.  There is absolutely no way I even had a chance in that fight.  Even a few levels can be an impossible battle depending on the characters because some of them are greatly overpowered like Hulk or many of the Spider-Man characters.

In the second, they put me with my same three against two level 13s and a level 1 character?!?  Seriously, what the hell?  How is anyone supposed to enjoy this?

Then the match right after that I was back to fighting a level 58 and two 59s.  It's either a guaranteed win or loss, there's almost no close matches.  I've had maybe a 10% chance of a somewhat balanced match, and the other 90% are like this- and nearly always on the low end so I'm losing constantly.

What I wonder is why they don't just make the levels EVENLY matched?  Because the odds are we are fighting proxy players and not actually the other person (I don't know this for sure, maybe we are), but if we aren't fighting another person, why isn't there a feature that scales their gear to your level to offer a fair and decent balance?

Other than this problem the game has been maintaining it's awesomeness.

Many of us though are still a bit peeved that there aren't any X-Men characters to play in the game.  I wasn't a fan of Marvel's Contest of Champions, and they at least had the option to play as many of my favorite comics characters.  Come on Marvel, loosen up with the tie ins.  You're still making shit loads of money off of all the other merchandise, just not from the X-films.

Marvel Future Fight: Jessica Jones Arrives as Playable Character!

With the highly anticipated Jessica Jones television show premiering this Friday on Netflix, Marvel has given the free-to-play mobile game Future Fight players a chance to play as the super-powered woman herself!

In addition to the Jessica Jones tie-in, they've added Marvel's other Netflix show character, Daredevil, his TV costume, as well as the ABC Marvel show's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Quake, the Doctor Octopus Spider-Man, and the white Iron Fist costumes.

This update was available last night and we can prepare for the new show by attempting to unlock her character and obtaining the costumes.  If you haven't played this game, I highly recommend it.  It is easily the best Marvel Comics game on mobile devices right now.
