Star Wars: Uprising: Announcement & Gameplay Trailers & Thoughts

In early June Kabam announced an upcoming Star Wars game for iOS and Android devices- Star Wars: Uprising.  The announcement trailer (above) didn't give us a whole lot of information on what the gameplay might be.  Now that the gameplay trailer has dropped (below) we get an idea of what is to come.  And it looks quite good.

     The story:
"In the days following the Battle of Endor and the fall of the Emperor, The Anoat sector has been locked down by the Empire. With the Rebel Alliance on the other side of the Iron Blockade, it falls to the sector’s smugglers, freedom fighters, bounty hunters and gangsters to join forces and form an uprising."

Here's some features according to the official Star Wars: Uprising website:
REAL-TIME CO-OP AGAINST THE EMPIRE
Explore the secrets of the sector, build a powerful crew with allies, and play alongside friends in synchronous cooperative play.
DEEP CUSTOMIZATION
Choose from a wide range of special skills, species, visual customizations and classic Star Wars gear to become the next Han Solo, Boba Fett or entirely unique hero of your own design.
SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE UNIVERSE
Join players worldwide in massive sector-wide battles to dictate the expansion of in-game content, including new planets, exclusive gear and unique crew members.
My thoughts on this game:  This looks to easily be the best mobile Star Wars game, and the sheer amount of customization will be well worth the price by itself.  Of course, making it up to 4 players with multiple classes all done in the gameplay style of Diablo helps.  Really, my only complaint is the lack of Jedi (or Sith) and the accompanying elegant weapons they carry- lightsabers.  IGN cites that this is deliberate and the creators are focusing on a different side of the universe, so really- I don't mind too much- as this game might retain the feel of the Expanded Universe's dark and gritty underworld- which has been officially eliminated from canon.  So this could be the spiritual successor to keep the diverse range of characters and places in the galaxy far, far away.

It also has an interesting placement in the official Star Wars timeline.  This game will bridge the gap between Episodes VI (Return of the Jedi) and VII (The Force Awakens).  And there is a lot that can happen in those decades.
