Gravity Rush 2: Delayed into January 2017

Gravity Rush 2 Director Keiichiro Toyama has announced a disappointing delay to the highly anticipated sequel to the PS Vita phenomena- BUT! - we get something wonderful as a courtesy.

"In exchange for the longer wait, we have decided to release the premium DLC planned for the title free of charge."
That is a great trade off.  The first game's DLC gave us extra missions and costumes and provided a lot of fun additions to the main campaign.  I wouldn't expect any less for the sequel.

Gravity Rush 2 is set to launch itself to the skies on Jan. 20th, 2017.  This not only allows for a little more work to be done on it, but gives it room for sales because it won't be competing against games like The Last Guardian.

Sony's Problem with the PS Vita

As a Sony fan I feel this is a post I should make.  Well, actually, it's more of an updated reminder- because I said almost the exact same thing back in 2013.  The post was actually prompted by Sony's recent news that the PS Vita is getting 2 new colors in Japan (a silver-grey and metallic red).  It sells much better overseas than here in the west, but that doesn't have to be.

THE PROBLEM(S)

The major issues with the Vita is really in 2 areas.  The first is cost (both the Vita itself, and secondarily the ridiculously overpriced proprietary memory cards).  To be fair, they did release a newer model of Vita (which is awesome) that is considerably cheaper- but the memory cards are still far too costly.  Though, this is really the lesser issue the Vita has.

The larger problem is the games selection.  When the system was first marketed, it was supposed to be a portable Playstation in the palm of your hand.  Which we do have, but only without the AAA titles that make the system worthwhile.  The same goes for Nintendo's continued use of re-selling old titles on new handheld systems.  We want games that can't simply be played on a phone.
What happened there?  Think of the Vita's early games that were, and are, still the best the system offered- Assassin's Creed: Liberation, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Gravity Rush.  These 3rd person action adventure games are unbelievably great.  We fans want more of this kind of quality.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION

It's been my biggest complaint since I first got the Vita 4 years ago- the games selection.  They need better games.  Games.  Games.  GAMES!  More AAA games.  More exclusivity and original games.  Not just games that are already available for free on phones.  We want the true Playstation in our hands feel that a phone or tablet cannot give us.
We want AAA-quality exclusive games.  Good freakin' lord- can you imagine what a new game that takes place in the world of The Last of Us could do on this system?  A NEW Dark Souls, a NEW Borderlands, Ico, Far Cry, Deus Ex, Batman: Arkham game, or even a new Bioshock?
Or what about a new Metal Gear?  I wrote up a small outline for a game that would be a wonderful use of the franchise on the Vita- featuring The Boss from Metal Gear Solid 2.  The previous Vita Metal Gears were great, we could definitely use more of this type of game.  Hopefully it would be a little better looking than Metal Gear Survive.  The series could use some new content, and Konami might need a bit of guidance since Kojima left.
Note that I specifically say "NEW" versions- we don't want more ports of console titles we already own.  We want portable experiences that the other companies and consoles cannot provide.  Less ports and more originals.  Real Triple-A titles that we can play on the go.  Sony, you have immense potential with the Vita, so why aren't you using it?  We want the content, it just isn't available.  Seriously Sony, a few NEW AAA games would cement the Vita as THE portable system to have.

Back in May there was a reveal that there was an actual portable Elder Scrolls game in production for the Vita's precursor (the PSP) that was cancelled.  Can you imagine how unbelievably amazing a NEW Elder Scrolls game for the Vita could be?!?  A real first person Elder Scrolls game and not the stupid card game currently being peddled would be a tremendous money maker, and if it was a Vita exclusive...  that's a whole lot of sales.

VITA SUCCESSOR

Sony Computer Entertainment's president Shuhei Yoshida was asked about a PS Vita successor by Eurogamer at the EGX 2015 and his response was:
"That's a tough question- people have mobile phones and it's so easy to play games on smartphones, and many games on smartphones are free, or free to start.
"I myself am a huge fan of PlayStation Vita and we worked really hard on designing every aspect. Touch-based games are fun - there are many games with really good design. But having sticks and buttons make things totally different.
"So I hope, like many of you, that this culture of playing portable games continues but the climate is not healthy for now because of the huge dominance of mobile gaming."
This comment stuck with me (from a year ago) because as phones get better, they'll catch up to the Vita eventually.  A new Sony portable gaming system isn't needed- they simply need a better selection of AAA games that are extremely lacking from the Vita right now.  It doesn't matter how awesome the Vita is if there aren't games to show it off are non-existent.  I mean, you could have the greatest movie theater ever created, but if you only play Sharknado on each screen no one's going to show up.

So, please Sony, give us some brilliant new reasons to dust off this amazing portable system.

Gravity Rush 2: New Tokyo Game Show 2016 Trailer Looks Amazing!

As expected, the nearer we get the the release date the more material we'll get to see for the highly anticipated Gravity Rush 2.  This is the Tokyo Game Show 2016 trailer, loaded with new goodies for all of us fans.

New moves, new character, and new costumes- what's not to like?  It appears that the sequel to the PS Vita exclusive Gravity Rush has taken everything we liked about the first game and made it better.

Gravity Rush 2 will be available Dec. 2nd for PS4.

Gravity Rush 2: Release Date & NEW HEIGHTS Trailer

Fans of the Playstation Vita's most spectacular game Gravity Rush are all getting a dose of gravity altering excitement with this new trailer for its PS4 exclusive sequel.  Kat, Raven, and Syd all return as well as some new faces, including Angel.  A new helpful character with crystallization powers, that appears to aid Kat when she's being overwhelmed by the Nevi.

The game isn't all about being serious though.  There's things to watch for such as people and animals reactions to being caught in your gravitational fields, silly Sailor Moon-esque finishing poses, and even a quest line where Kat is starring in a movie in the game.  Creative Director Keiichiro Toyama wanted to keep the game fun and upbeat, so the inclusion of these elements were a necessity.

In addition it's been announced that Studio Khara will be producing an anime titled Gravity Rush the Animation ~Overture~, detailing the events between Gravity Rush and the sequel.

Gravity Rush 2 lifts off December 2nd.

Gravity Rush 2: E3 2016 Trailer!

This is a game I've been hyped for for a long time.  The first game was what sold me on the Playstation Vita and how awesome that system truly is.  Sony has pushed this to the PS4 and essentially ignores their Vita, but Gravity Rush 2 will definitely benefit from the boost in console hardware.

What also kind of bothers me is why did they not play this during the Sony E3 Press Conference?  It seems like something that would garner a lot of welcome attention.

Gravity Rush 2 is expected in 2016.

Gravity Rush Remastered: Coming a Week Earlier Than Announced

Last we heard, Gravity Rush Remastered was going to be arriving on the PS4 as an enhanced bundle port of the PS Vita's best game on February 9th, 2016 including the original game and all its DLC.  Earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment of America's Nick Accordino Tweeted that we will be getting it an entire week earlier than expected on Feb. 2nd, and we can already pre-order it on Amazon.

Now we can only hope to see the sequel a little earlier than anticipated, with it's some time in 2016 release.  A vague time frame, but it already looks to be worth the wait.

Gravity Rush 2: New Combat Information & Trailer!

During their Paris Games Week presentation Sony has given us a nice new chunk of information for the highly anticipated sequel to the single greatest PS Vita game created, Gravity Rush.

What we get in this trailer is to see the world will now have 2 alternate modes of combat to expand her normal gravity altering fighting ability.  Lunar Style, making Kat lighter and swifter, and then Jupiter Style increasing her weight and subsequently her attack power.  There's also a nice tease towards the tag-team play with the AI controlled secondary character.

The creative team has really been putting a lot of effort into giving players new options for the action portion of the game.  Apparently there's more than one way to combat skinning a gravity defying cat.

Gravity Rush 2 will be out some time in 2016 exclusively on PS4.

Gravity Rush Remastered will be available Feb. 9th in North America
(Exclusively via the Playstation Store for $29.99)

Gravity Rush 2: Story & Character Details Emerge

After the SCE Japan announcement of the Gravity Rush (aka Gravity Daze in Japan) sequel and the Gravity Rush Remastered at the Tokyo Game Show 2015 during their press conference fans have been eager to learn more of what's to come of the heroine Kat.

The amazingly made Gravity Rush 2 official site has put up some new info:
(thankfully translated for us over at Gematsu)
In the aerial city of Hekseville, reconstruction is progressing after the new weapons incident caused by the former mayor D’nelica.
After a strange gravity wave disturbance was observed, the gravity princess Kat begins an investigation with her shifter partner Raven, and Syd, a police officer.
Kat senses something strange and the area is hit by a gravity storm on an unprecedented scale. The three investigators are sucked into a gravitational whirlpool before even getting a chance to use their powers.
A remote, alternate dimension. Kat was engulfed by the gravity storm and finds herself in Banga Village, where people mine gravity ores amongst ruins for a living.
Separated from Dusty, the cat who gives her the power to manipulate gravity, Kat is without special powers, and spends each day doing hard labor in the mines.
One day she heads to work with Syd, who found himself in the same village, and a type of Nevi they’ve never seen before—called a “black insect” in this world—appears. The two are in deep trouble, but then…
Kat
A girl who lost her memories. She saves the aerial city Hekseville from a gravity storm attack, and its people endear her as a gravity princess.
Raven
A girl who used to be Kat’s rival, but now appears as her partner.
Syd
A police officer who resolved a number of incidents with Kat. But he’s also a troublemaker that invites unrest.
Gravity Rush 2
A bright and bustling town where you can feel the vitality of its citizens.
A new dimension of gravitational action.
With your new power, face the threat that stands in your way, and discover the fate that awaits Kat.

There's a bunch of small tidbits, but the good news is we get a new partner, a new place, and a new power all to help fight a new threat.  There isn't a whole lot for plot detail, but enough to keep our interest peaked.
I'm actually really curious about the ability to feel the vitality of the citizens.  Could that be a hint to what the new power will be?  Will we see Dusty again?  So many questions to ask while we await the game.

Gravity Rush 2 will be available on PS4 in 2016.

Gravity Rush Remastered will be available in Japan on Dec. 10th, 2015...
...and in the EU and US in Feb 10th, 2016.

Gravity Rush Remastered: Falling Upward from the Vita to the PS4 & Sequel Update

The Playstation Vita has some serious issues (and some obvious solutions) it really could be a huge portable option for Sony users, and one great proof of that fact was the 2012 PS Vita exclusive game, SCE Japan Studio's portable masterpiece, Gravity Rush.

In late 2013, Gravity Rush fans got teased with a sequel, then in late 2014 another tease for the sequel claiming it was being developed for the PS Vita.  Now almost a year after the last tidbit of information we get more news in an nearly annual update fashion- with a bonus!

Gravity Rush 2 (Aka Gravity Daze in Japan)

Since the last news update, we now learn that Gravity Rush 2 is being fully and exclusively developed for the PS4 and it is taking full advantage of the graphical power of the system.

Gravity Rush 2 is slated for release in 2016.

Gravity Rush Remastered

Developer Bluepoint Games, known for updating the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, the Metal Gear HD Collection, and more recently the Uncharted Collection have been hard at work updating Gravity Rush for the PS4.  In addition to the increased graphics, they've included all 3 DLC packs (The Spy Pack, The Military Pack, and The Maid Pack) that include extra missions and costumes.  Kat and her sidekick/talking cat Dusty will now be defying gravity in 1080p at 60fps through the city of Hekseville.

Gravity Rush Remastered will be available in Japan on Dec. 10th, 2015...
...and in the EU and US in Feb 10th, 2016.

Gravity Rush 2: Will be for the PS VITA!

In some exceptional news for the day, I see someone questioned Sony's Yoshida on Ask Playstation:
     His wonderful reply was:
It is an excellent thing to hear that Gravity Daze (Gravity Rush in America) is getting a Playstation Vita specific sequel.  It has been over a year since the "Fall Again" teaser trailer was first put out and we get a late Christmas gift of a new update.  Gravity Rush still stands, to me at least, as the best game the Vita has available, and the system could definitely use a few more like it.  I think the Vita needs more amazing games developed specifically for it on its own.  So now we wait to see if there'll be another Uncharted or the like on the way.

Gravity Duck: Review

Noodlecake Studios with Woblyware and Ravenous Games have produced another simple 2D platformer that manages to be both interesting and consistently mundane.  That isn't to say it isn't worth playing though.

The premise is that a massive Easter Island looking stone head wants you, a duck, to collect all his golden eggs.  But this plot is barely given much thought- the chief draw here is the ability that the head bestows upon the duck- to flip gravity.  You can't jump at all, you simply reverse gravity and fall in the opposite direction.

A giant stone head and a duck.  What more could you ask for?
This simple new power is used in conjunction with some gravity rotating yellow orbs to solve roughly 100 levels of short puzzles.  There is nothing to strenuous in terms of puzzles- nothing to rack your brain with- but the concept does prove to be fun enough to want to keep playing.  The lack of challenge is low enough that you can nearly always tell what to do as soon as the level begins.

The downsides are the controls were occasionally unresponsive leaving players slightly frustrated when a lack of response movement leads directly to death.  In addition, sometimes you need to dive blindly into areas and die because your view is severely limited in places (no camera movement).  Once in a while the enemy laden areas need a bit of trial and error to figure out due to their swiftness, but it isn't too awful.

A fashionable top-hat is the reward for collecting all the golden eggs.
For only a dollar, Gravity Duck provides plenty of simple, cute, and pixely puzzling entertainment.  Perhaps the gravity manipulation and level design for the coming "City" DLC will prove to add a little more variety for our entertainment.  I hope they add some more progression, balance, and flow to the levels and challenge to come- I would like more of a sense of achievement from the puzzles- something a little more like a 2D version of the phenomenal PS Vita game Gravity Rush.  There is a wide range with the concept they've used, if only they'd take it to the next level of its potential.

Borderlands 2: Cross Save Patch Coming Friday (and a Mini-Review)

Shoot us now and be done with it.
Gearbox Head Randy Pitchford Tweeted earlier today about the still unusable PS Vita/Ps3 cross-save function for the new Vita version of Borderlands 2:

EDIT: UPDATE: Pitchford has since released another date, Tuesday May 20th.

It appears that the game has suffered numerous setbacks since it's early launch date on the 6th.  Only a week before launch did we learn that the originally touted four player co-op had been reduced to a mere 2 player game, but the highly anticipated cross-save feature was completely missing on release.

Now we've also heard that if our cross-save characters are above the Vita's player cap of 61, we won't earn any more exp., nor will be able to use any of the inventory items those characters have from the Ultimate Vault Hunter Pack 2, Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, or Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep.  So roughly 80% of all my level 61 plus characters will be rendered useless due to incompatibility of their inventories.

Zero Skill Points.  That sounds about right for this port.
This news is just one more nail in the coffin- all the frame rate issues, sluggish motion, unresponsive controls (the rear touchpads are horrendous here),  extremely poor hitbox detection, and lagging of controls, visuals, and sound- the PS Vita version of Borderlands 2 is one giant pile of crap.  Iron Galaxy may have tried their best, but it wasn't even close to hitting the mark in any way.  Maybe they should've tried focusing on just porting the main campaign instead of cramming in an already humongous amount of substance.  As much of it as I've played makes me feel frustrated that I paid money to support the Borderlands franchise on the Vita after almost 2 years of supporting and purchasing all the various DLCs, and I'm quite regretful of that decision.
All of the game's worst problems are quite magnified when compressed into such a small form- and the constant argument of the Vita's hardware limitations seem unrealistic, as Killzone: Mercenary was quite phenomenal, as were Gravity Rush, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Little Big Planet.  It can be done.

In the end, it's sad to say, but this is Borderlands 2 chewed up and regurgitated into a mess that is like trying to play a sloppy slideshow instead of a game.  Perhaps someday Gearbox will release a smaller game with better controls- something like a combination of the Headhunter Packs and a full DLC as a Borderlands on the Vita.  Or, better yet, maybe they should make something Vita exclusive and really make it shine instead of cramming a whale-sized game into a can.  It was an ambitious project, but not well done and the few merits in the game definitely don't balance out the issues.

Good gods, there were plenty of times I counted a full three seconds before the shot I fired registered, killed, and exploded enemies.  It goes from annoying to almost impossible to play when it's this consistently choppy.  All the fun has been drained out of the game and this is what was left.  Another 6 months of work could possibly have helped this game perform better, but as it sits, I can't honestly recommend it to either Vita fans or Borderlands fans.

Here were my initial impressions of the Vita version [ Launch Day Problems... ]

Playstation Vita: How to Fix the PS Vita's Sales Problem

I see Sony has a 3 part plan for the problems the PS Vita is suffering...
...and I see that they are horribly misunderstanding it's difficulties.
It might be of note to mention that I've made no efforts to hide how much I love the Vita in previous blog posts, it knocks the 3DS out of the park as a gaming system.  Honestly, it's a tremendous piece of hardware, and the lagging sales could be fixed in a fairly simple manner.

The issues with the Vita are quite easy to spot-

  1. COST!  The cost of the system, and the proprietary memory cards, is absurd.
  2. Games.  Games.  GAMES!  More games.  More exclusivity and original games.
  3. Stop pushing the remote play.  We bought a portable system to play it PORTABLY, not to be tethered to a console (I'm looking at you Wii U).  It's a feature, not a selling point.

Sony is making a bit of headway though, with the announcement of a more cost effective Vita (large price drop) and a slew of indie games.  But if they really want to compete with Nintendo in the handheld systems department- give us things we want.

     What do we want?

We want more games.  Everyone that already owns a Vita will tell you the same exact thing- MORE GAMES.  I bought a Vita quite a while back and my only complaint is the game selection.  Sure I've got about a dozen games I really like on it, but where are all the heavy hitters?  The kind that rival Nintendo with the Zelda series.  More games like the exclusive Assassin's Creed: Liberation, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Gravity Rush.  All three of these were amazing games, and players would like more of them.

We want exclusive games.  Good freakin' lord- can you imagine what a new game that takes place in the world of The Last of Us could do on this system?  A NEW version of Dark Souls, a NEW Borderlands or a NEW Bioshock would cement this portable gaming system as THE system to have.
Note that I specifically say "NEW" versions- we don't want more ports of console titles we already own.  We want portable experiences that the other companies and consoles cannot provide.  Less ports and more originals.  Real Triple-A titles that we can play on the go.  Sony, you have an immense potential with the Vita, so why aren't you using it?

Hell, new and compact versions of an Elder Scrolls or Fallout could go a long way to boost sales.  Killzone: Mercenary was a great start to the portable first person experience, but we want to see what the Vita is truly capable of.

Maybe, if Sony wants to sell some Vitas really, really badly- they could just make The Last Guardian a Vita exclusive.

How many would get a Vita if it showed off better exclusive games with tons of creative ingenuity?  Make more games for kids and females.  Seriously, just the females portion of the gaming market has to be like a bajillion extra buyers.  Focus on creating games that appeal to their tastes.   And as for the kids- if they could release a Pokemon or Monster Hunter type game?  Instant profits.

As much as it pains me to say this, there needs to be more grinding JRPGs for the Vita.  Many gamers are clamoring for it- why not listen to the consumers Sony?

And while we're at it how about a screen capture?

WB CEO "Needs" A Wonder Woman Film (and Wonder Woman Fan Trailer by Rainfall Films)

This is Cosplayer Meagan Marie's Pic. (By Chris Fink)

Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara has been quoted saying,
“We need to get Wonder Woman on the big screen or TV.”
He's also been quoted saying Warner Bros.' problem getting anything other than Superman and Batman to work in film and TV as a "missed opportunity."  Considering how he is highly supportive of Alfonso Cuaron's risky new film Gravity and how he was quite instrumental in getting J.K. Rowling to start a new Harry Potter spin off (according to her)- he knows his stuff- and is willing to take risks to achieve those moments of glory.

Tsujihara has mentioned that the studio has "huge plans for a number of other DC Comics based properties on TV."  Hopefully his influence will be strong enough to lure in the proper talents to really give Wonder Woman the treatment she deserves.

With the upcoming Superman / Batman film close on the horizon a possible Justice League film can't be far behind.  If they are truly wanting a JL movie they need to take a chance.  Not one that looked as awful as the young Princess Diana of Themyscira called Amazon that was canned by the CW.
And with the WB-CW show Arrow and a soon to be Flash series, one could assume they have at least some idea of where to take this opening.  There is even both a Gotham and Constantine series' on the way, although with different networks if I recall.

In my personal opinion, they need to aim for a slightly older audience.  Take the time to craft a heroine worth watching.  Don't rush it and end up with another Green Lantern.  They sought to make younger audiences the target- and it hurt the movie.  Too much reliance was put on looks and flashy special effects and the depth of character got left aside.  This sort of thing is detrimental because it lacks the staying power- that is why Christopher Nolan's Batman (Dark Knight) series is so well done, why it is so resonant with viewers- it focused on story and character first!  It gave us something that stuck in the mind.

Now, with this recent fan trailer Wonder Woman by Rainfall films, I think that it is only average.  Gods help me, I'll catch a ton of flack for this, but three minutes of slow-motion jump-punches is not a story.  It surely isn't "proof" that a Wonder Woman film can be made.  It tells us nothing other than she can look cool and hit things dramatically.  It is however a much better start than the CW's Amazon was.  The fan trailer is definitely a step in the right direction.

With a wealth of Greek Mythology to draw upon and a properly updated origin story, Wonder Woman has an immense potential to become a new female-lead driven film (or TV series).  Create a stable, well-written foundation to begin with and go from there.  Make a good film first, and the audiences will follow.

My recommendations would be to find an actual Greek woman that is slightly bulkier (like a dancer or athlete) and have her train with old Grecian specialists on warfare.  Authentic fighting, none of this slow motion Zack Snyder crap.  She should be both beautiful, and look like she could kick your ass, because she could kick your ass.  This is a woman that can easily go toe-to-toe in a battle with Superman, and match wits with Batman.  Keep the armor reminiscent of the one from the Rainfall video or the Meagan Marie cosplay, they work well.  AND NO F*CKING HEELS!  Diana must be grounded with enough plausibility to make the Greek mythology work, while maintaining her entry to and embrace of the modern world seem natural.

I mean WB and DC certainly "missed an opportunity" all right when they let Joss Whedon go without getting to make a Wonder Woman film.  Now look at what Marvel has...
...So DC Comics and Warner Bros., don't screw this up.

Also- Here are 2 previous WW fan films I dug out of my unposted blog archive.  Nothing extraordinary, but decent and worth a watch.

     1) First Impressions

     2) Wonder Woman Fan Film

Gravity Rush Sequel: "Fall Again..."

Team Gravity has released this video of a new project with Kat from Gravity Rush falling through the skies.  The video was first shown at the Tokyo Game Show during Sony's sizzle real for upcoming Vita releases.
With what little I've seen, I'm sold already.  Gravity Rush is a must play game on the Playstation Vita.

     Here's the Official video release:

PS Vita will get 100+ games in 2013!!!

IGN reported in an interview with Don Mesa (PlayStation’s Director of Product Planning and Platform Software Innovation) that it was said over 100 titles will be coming to the PlayStation Vita in 2013.  This is such wonderful news!  The Walking Dead, Mechanarium, and Lone Survivor along with TONS of others.  The Vita needed this so bad.

Luckily enough I bought a Vita last August, and it is such a remarkable portable gaming system.  I really mean that- after going through multiple Nintendo Gameboy Advance(s) and DS(s), the Vita blows them out of the water.  As for a portable system, this is really a portable Playstation.  Sure the Vita is currently lacking some of variety in games playable right now, but Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, and Assassin's Creed: Liberation show that the system is HIGHLY capable of producing console game quality on a slightly smaller scale.  I would even go as far as to say that these 3 games, in particular, are better than a great many of the Nintendo Wii games.
The only negative part of the Vita (aside from the huge cost of purchase) so far was the poor selection of games.  There just weren't enough to choose from, and now that problem will be remedied.  Thank you Sony.

Playstation 4: The PS4 revealed... kind of...

Was anyone else disturbed by the lack of the Playstation 4 reveal at the said Playstaion 4 debut show?  Maybe I was right and the PS4 is just a massive system upgrade for the PS3.  Maybe they haven't finalized the console design?
Something about this was very over hyped.  We've gotten a bunch of seemingly useless info.  None of the games are interesting yet, and the Diablo 3 port should've gone to PS3 a year ago.  Way to be late Blizzard.  I played enough on PC and will not be revisiting it on PS4 any time soon.
Well, I do like the new controller, it looks a bit blocky, I would like a sleeker curved design like a few of the 3rd party controllers I prefer, but this is a start.

I think my biggest like is the recording and sharing the system is looking towards.  I made it no secret about how horrible the PS3 game recording is.  A week of struggling with the Hauppauge HD PVR was enough.  Now that Sony seems to have built one in- well, that's just foresight, and I thank them for it.  Social media is big, and will probably have much more appeal once I start using it on the console itself.

BAD NEWS:
Not backwards comptable? Not PSN linked for all my previous buys? If hackers can make an emulator to play games on a completely different system, then Sony should be able to port their own games(with all the same controls) from PS3 to PS4.
It isn't absurd to think it should be a given. Don't make another mistake like the Vita. If it's reasonably priced and games are easily ACCESSABLE people will go with it. I will NOT rebuy games, considering that I've already purchased some games (such as Ico and Shadow of the Colossus) multiple times.
Sony, you are eliminating plenty of potential early buyers with this. I personally will not buy the PS4 now until I am able to get a bunch of games I want. Made that mistake with the Vita and will not repeat it for the PS4. It is a remarkably amazing piece of equipment, but there just isn't enough material to be played on it yet. Should I even mention how the cost is hurting it? Take a hint from SCE Japan and lower that cost. More buyers will present more companies opportunities to make games, which in turn, present more money making chances for Sony as a whole. It is simple.
You want to sell me on the PS4?  Make it compatable with things I've already bought.  It's disappointing to FEEL like we'll have to re pay for games in a struggling economic market.
*UPDATE*  Just read this- a small bit of potential good news.  Make this happen Sony.

GOOD NEWS:
I am, however, pretty excited for the talk of  Vita being a major "Remote Player" for the PS4.  Hopefully it'll be able to be fully used when I'm out of the house and far away from home.  No use using remote play if it only extends into the next room.
If the Vita had a larger selection of great games, the sales could be boosted.  As a lucky individual that had enough spare dollars to purchase one, I am greatful, because this system is just astounding.  (Yes, I have multiple Nintendo DS systems- they just can't compare to Vita's games like Uncharted or Gravity Rush)  The Vita needs this boost of usable capabilities.
